Specman is a tool which runs the ‘e’ language. The tool includes a compiler and interpreter, and parser which does everything from pre-processing the through simulating with the design.

Specman attaches to RTL simulators through a standard PLI interface. During a simulation the Specman tool is called anytime a signal being observed by Specman changes. The Specman can then run procedural code in the ‘e’ language to drive the RTL design, check the RTL for correctness, or observe the functional coverage attained by the simulation.

The Specman GUI provides a code debugger, generation debugger, a coverage analysis tool, and links to tool support.
